Here are some Philly Trolley Car pictures, and Horn and Hardart Automat shots. Who remembers eating there? These are the kind of trolleys that we grew up loving riding in West Philly. The same models ended up on tracks all over the city until 1996. We went everywhere on trolleys, and, when Chubby Checker came home to Philly after a world-wide tour, and with a new bride, (Miss World 1961) he played at Sciolla's nightclub. Terry and I took him home to South Philly on a Rt 47 trolley..Renee had never ridden one, and we had a ball when the late-night riders got on and saw Chubby and me laughing and dancing around. The Motorman saw that it was Chubby and wouldn't even charge us. Our long-time love for trolley's has been transferred to our grandchildren, both here and in LA. We recently took Jake to the Zoo on a Rt 15 trolley. Now. Terry and I have written a children's Book called "Let's Ride a Trolley". A sample page is shown below. These same trolleys now run in San Francisco..while rebuilt copies run on Rt 15..not the "real thing." We snuck a picture in of our grandson in LA driving a miniature diesel train, with a trolley car sitting across the tracks at Travel-Town. We grew up wih the "el" on Market Street and after it went under center city as a subway, back on elevated tracks on Frankford Avenue..over Kensington, whose streets and lifestyle are pictured a new book called "The Kensington Kid," The book will be reviewed here, along with an interview with the author. What was YOUR favorite street game or trolley route? email us at [email protected] and let us know. Thanks. Ter's sorrority pic includes all of the West Philly High girls who rode the Rt 42 to school. Had to add Terry at the World series Parade since we rode SEPTA there and back. ..Also Trolleys are shown from Kensington, West Philly,Frankford.South Philly, Center City.even the Rt 31 (which Ter's dad drove shown under the EL at the 46th and Market "Bandstand" stop.) are all shown here.
