Weldon McDougal, long-time Motown Records Promotions Executive, and "Sounds Of Philly" Original, is an old friend from Gene's days as a singer, songwriter, and, later. a radio personality, and appears with him in the Philly Pop Music documentary. Here, sadly, is his last Philly interview. He died in Otober of 2010. Weldon previews his Michael Jackson story for Gene before flying to London to tell his story in a new movie about Michael Jackson and The J5 at the beginning. He will tell you HOW the J5 REALLY got on Motown..not exactly as you have heard. He has spent years with Michael as a young J5 child and as the world's biggest entertainer.."The King Of Pop!" as well as many other TOP stars. Press the arrow to play. A Giant Gene Sounds Of Philly Exclusive. c.2010
The business card from our San-Dee/Worldwide Linited Record Label and our studios and offices at 212 North 12th Street. Gene is the 'Rick Roman' on the card. We were there between Emil Corson and Joe Tarsia..when Sigma Sound took over, they went stereo and their engineering staff geared up to make the studio sound 'hot', and turned out hit after hit for 'The Pioneers' of Philly rock and soul...as did Frankford-Wayne Mastering company, the folks who turned our tapes into records. To see videos of Giant Gene at The Spectrum introducing some of the Philly Rock Pioneers, like The Nazz, Charlie Gracie, and The Orlons, all Philly ORIGINALS, go to youtube.com and put 'giant gene arnold' in the search box. Thanks Below is a poster from the Big Cameo Parkway Records re-union show February 13. Find info on Facebook on Charlie Gracie Jr's. page.
Recently, Gene and I attended two sad funerals..One was for long-time Philly singer and entertainer,Bobby Burnette whose church service was followed by a beautiful Celebration of Life. We also attended the viewing for the remarkable Philly Superstar, Teddy Pendergrast, carrying prayers and messages requested for us to deliver by Bob Davis founder of Soul Patrol, and many of our worldwide Facebook page members. We were able to pass those messages on to Teddy's son.
